The Washington Post: Company says it was told duck boats were OK before sinking

Ripley Entertainment, the company that owned the duck boat that sank in Missouri in 2018 killing 17 people, disputes claims that an independent inspector, Steve Paul, warned them about regulatory issues.

Paul said he found all 24 boats he inspected had tailpipe designs that failed Department of Transportation standards. Ripley maintains Paul passed the boats in his report and cited a third-party engineering review that noted both a “Good” condition rating and concerns about exhaust compliance. The boat had also passed a U.S. Coast Guard inspection prior to the incident.
